President Obama returns on June 18-19, 2013 to the scene of one of his biggest political triumphs: Berlin.

Obama, who as a presidential candidate spoke to a crowd of more than 200,000 people in Berlin on July 24, 2008, returns as president on June 18-19 for talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The trip also coincides with the 50th anniversary of another presidential appearance in Berlin: John F. Kennedy at the height of the Cold War, when the city was divided between the capitalist west and the communist east.

Kennedy delivered his celebrated “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech at the Schöneberger Rathaus (town hall) in West Berlin on June 26, 1963.
